Dance was added to the curriculum at Outwood Academy Brumby in September 2016 and is delivered by a specialist Dance teacher. Students have access to excellent facilities for their Dance lessons. Dance is taught in the Activity Studio which offers mirrors and cameras that provide instant analysis of their performance. Dance offers a range of extra-curricular opportunities for all students during the week such as: Cheerleading, Boys’ Dance, Street Dance and a Youth Dance Company which perform and compete at internal/external events.
Dance provides the opportunity for all student to take part in monthly competitions that will challenge their physical skills.
The Dance course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the BTEC Level 2 Award in Performing Arts course in Key Stage 4. Year 7 and Year 8 students explore a range of styles and themes each half term. Year 8 students start to look at professional work for inspiration which will support their transition from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4. Each topic allows students to develop their physical and performance skills across varied genres, choreography and analytical skills.
If you would like further information about the topics and themes being taught please contact: Miss Hellard on 01724 290670 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
